Talk to an engineer

Ask us anything about
the building you look after

You get somebody who does the work, not a call centre with a script. Ring during opening hours and it is usually answered on the spot. Everything else is called back within 24 to 48 hours.

Four ways in, and what each one is best for

They all reach the same three people. The difference is how fast you get an answer and how much detail you can give us first.

  • Phone

    020 3393 1661

Fastest, and the only one where you can describe a fault and get an answer in the same minute. During opening hours it is normally answered by an engineer.

  • WhatsApp

Best for sending us a photograph. A picture of the panel display, the label inside the door, or the item on a schedule of works tells us more in one message than ten minutes of description.

  • Email

    info@flameshieldlondon.co.uk

Best when there is a document. Send the fire risk assessment, the schedule of works or a previous quote and we will read it before we reply rather than after.

  • The booking form

Four questions, under a minute. Best if you would rather not be on the phone: it tells us what you need before we ring, so the call is short and useful rather than exploratory.

    Use the form

Prefer to write it down?

The form asks four things: what you need, the postcode, your name and a phone number. Email is optional, because a phone number is enough to call you back and asking for both loses more enquiries than it gains.

  • It takes under a minute and there is nothing to create an account for
  • You get a call back within 24 to 48 hours during opening hours
  • The survey and the written quote that follows are both free
  • Nothing is booked, charged or committed to by sending it
  • Your details are used to answer your enquiry and for nothing else

What to have to hand, if you have it

None of this is required, but any of it makes the call back much shorter: the fire risk assessment, the last service certificate, and anything a council officer or fire officer has sent you. If a schedule of works has landed, that is the single most useful document, because we can price against the actual items rather than a description of them.

Before you get in touch

How quickly will somebody get back to me?

Within 24 to 48 hours, during opening hours. If you ring while we are open you will usually get an engineer straight away rather than a message service. We do not run a 24/7 line and we would rather say so than have you sitting waiting on a Sunday evening.

Can I just ask a question without booking anything?

Yes, and a good proportion of the calls we take are exactly that. If you want to know whether your building needs a fire risk assessment, what a schedule of works from the council is asking for, or whether the quote you have been sent is reasonable, ask. There is no charge for an opinion on the phone and no obligation attached to it.

Do you charge for the survey?

No. An accredited engineer visits the premises, looks at what is installed against what the building actually needs, explains what the law asks of you, and follows up with a written quote. It is free, and it is free whether or not you go on to book the work.

What should I have ready before I call?

Nothing at all is required, but three things make the call much shorter. The postcode, roughly what the building is and how big, and the fire risk assessment if one exists. If a council or a fire officer has sent you a schedule or a notice, having that in front of you is worth more than anything else, because we can price against the actual items rather than a description of them.

Where are you based and how far do you travel?

We are based at 7A Cecil Road in Southgate, North London. The seven boroughs we hold on our Google Business Profile are Barnet, Enfield, Haringey, Waltham Forest, Camden, Islington and Hackney, and those are the ones we can get to quickly and know the building stock in. We do take work beyond them; ask and we will tell you honestly whether we are the right people for the journey.

Free survey · No obligation

Not sure what you need yet?

That is the most common reason people ring, and it is a perfectly good one. Describe the building and we will tell you what the law actually asks of you before anybody quotes anything.
